Pit Boss Austin XL Heat Diffuser
A slotted plate that evens out the hot spots on the Austin XL pellet grill. I tested it with a grate full of tortillas.

The verdict
Worth it for even heat
The Austin XL runs hot over the firepot and cool at the edges, so anything on the left side cooks first. This diffuser sits over the firepot and spreads the heat. My test: set it horizontally with the cut-out windows facing front to back, run the grill at 350°F, and cover the grate in tortillas. After five minutes they all browned within a shade of each other — the hot spot is basically gone.
What's good
- Noticeably more even browning across the whole grate
- Drops in with no tools — sits over the stock heat baffle
- Heavy steel, no warping after a season of use
What's not
- Adds a couple of minutes to preheat time
- Cut-out orientation matters — front to back worked best for me
- Only fits the Austin XL and similar Pit Boss models
